Graves, Richmond and Scalise Announce $39 Million for MSY Airport

U.S. Congressmen Graves (LA-06), Cedric Richmond (LA-02) and Steve Scalise (LA-01) announced $39,233,581 has been awarded to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY) to extend taxiway from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The breakdown and their joint statement is below:

  • Discretionary: $4,932,824 (recovered funds from a previous FY, and therefore not eligible for the 100% share in the CARES Act. MSY will need to put in a local match in this instance)
  • Discretionary: $25,725,568 | CARES $8,575,189
  • Total: $39,233,581

"This is welcomed news for not just MSY but the entire surrounding economy. Commercial air travel has been sidelined the last few months, reaching 90 percent decline in commercial air travel at its peak. In the short term, these funds will ensure critical infrastructure needs are met, keeping the mechanisms for travel and tourism afloat until the pandemic rescinds so we can reignite our local economy," Graves, Richmond and Scalise said.

On April 14, Congressmen Graves, Richmond and Scalise announced MSY was receiving $42,793,389 available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
