ZACHARY, LA – U.S. Congressman Garret Graves (South Louisiana) went to the Zachary Fire Department this morning to congratulate the team for their efforts in guiding the community toward the highest rating possible which potentially saves community members in insurance costs. Based on a metric designated by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana, a Class 1 Rating is the highest rating possible, meaning local businesses and homeowners could possibly receive a reduction in their insurance premium after the new rating takes effect September 1.

The Property Insurance Association of Louisiana sets class ratings on a scale of 1 to 10, so the lower the number, the better the insurance rates. The scores are assessed every five years and not publicized on the internet.

"It was an honor to be on site with Mayor David Amrhein, Zachary Fire Chief Danny Kimble and the amazing team this morning to congratulate them on such a distinct achievement. The ZFD heroes not only put their lives on the line – whether storms, COVID or other emergencies – but they work to promote the safest community possible. So it's important to note too how this is a reflection of the entire Zachary community as the ratings are based on the fire department, and the water system, and building codes, and many other criteria that involve community participation," Graves said. "The bottom line is that this achievement translates to savings for homeowners and small businesses. Plus, when the Comite River Diversion Canal is completed in a year and a half, and when the Mayor's other drainage projects are complete, homes will be better protected from floods and homeowners will pay less in flood insurance."
