Graves Announces $195,277 Direct Component Grant to Lafourche Parish

U.S. Congressman Garret Graves (South Louisiana) announced today a $195,277 Direct Component Grant to Lafourche Parish for non-construction activities for the Grand Bayou Freshwater Reintroduction Phase II and III Project.

The project is for planning and design activities (final modeling, technical report, final engineering and design of the project and gathering of BAS information) for a restoration project to increase the flow of freshwater from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) into Grand Bayou Canal, which will lower salinities and add nutrients to the wetlands south of the GIWW along the east and west banks of Grand Bayou Canal.

This is a planning assistance project for a future restoration project that is included in Lafourche Parish's Multiyear Plan Amendment No. 1 that was accepted by Treasury on September 13, 2018. The Direct Component budget for this project is $195,277.00. Other Federal funds will be provided through the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) Parish RESTORE Act Matching Opportunities Program in the amount of $412,722.00, which is funded under the Spill Impact Component of the RESTORE Act.

Graves previously announced a $328,729.29 Direct Component Grant on April 7, 2020 for St. John the Baptist Parish for its Belle Terre Blvd Streetscape and Stormwater Management Enhancements Project.
