Graves Announces $116,000 Grant for Telehealth and Monitoring Capabilities to Treat Low-Income, Vulnerable Patients in Baton Rouge Area

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) awarded a $116,000 grant to the Open Health Care Clinic in Baton Rouge to expand its telehealth and remote patient monitoring capabilities to treat low-income, vulnerable patients. This award will directly assist the HIV/AIDS alliance.

The FCC was provided $200 million through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, to help health care providers provide connected care services to patients at their homes or mobile locations in response to the novel Coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Support will be provided to eligible health care providers by fully funding their telecommunications services, information services, and devices necessary to provide critical connected care services until the program's funds have been expended or the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.

To date, the FCC's COVID-19 Telehealth Program has funded 17 health care providers in 10 states for a total of $9.5 million in funding. The FCC began accepting applications on April 13, 2020 and will continue to evaluate applications and distribute additional funding on a rolling basis.
