Congressman Garret Graves says office is working to get flood victims grant money

BATON ROUGE, La (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44) - U.S. Congressman Garret Graves said his office is working to get residents who were impacted by the 2016 floods the Restore Louisiana grant money to help them rebuild their houses.

Millions of dollars are reportedly being held up because of a federal rule meant to prevent a duplication of benefits. Victims who applied for or qualify for a small business loan have been denied grants from the Restore program.

"We've been able to secure $1.7 billion in all federal funds to provide direct assistance," said Congressman Graves.

Congressman Graves said he spoke with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson about the issue to find a solution to this problem.

"The law said that they should have given approval by the third week of november," said Congressman Graves.

Graves said his office will have weekly phone calls with Housing and Urban Development officials so that residents can rebuild, recover, and get back to their homes. The Congressman said he hopes to get this done by the end of April.
