This Week Revisited – On the Floor
On Tuesday, the House passed S.J.Res. 34, the providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Federal Communications Commission relating to Protecting the Privacy of Customers of Broadband and Other Telecommunications Services, by a vote of 215-205. (See Roll Call #202). The resolution repeals an FCC rule that arbitrarily treats ISPs differently from the rest of the Internet. This legislation puts all segments of the internet on equal footing and provides American consumers with a consistent set of privacy rules.
On Wednesday, the House also passed H.R. 1430, the Honest and Open New EPA Science Treatment Act, by a vote of 228-194 (See Roll Call #206). This legislation requires that EPA regulations be based upon science that is publicly available.
On Thursday, the House also passed H.R. 1431, the EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act of 2017, by a vote of 229-193 (See Roll Call #208). This legislation amends federal law relating to the Scientific Advisory Board to establish qualifications for members, reinforce independence of the Board, and facilitate public participation in the Board's advisory activities.
