ZIP It: House-passed Graves Bill Carries the Mail

ZIP code chaos corrected by Graves provisions

Congressman Garret Graves (South Louisiana) and St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell announced today unanimous House approval of H.R. 8753, a bill that directs the U.S. Postal Service to designate single, unique ZIP Codes for Montz, LA, LSU-Baton Rouge, LA, and other communities across the U.S.

“We have tried working with USPS for years to get Montz their own ZIP code, and to consolidate the balkanized ZIPs that fit in and around LSU. Simple, right? Wrong. The confusion of missing and disjointed ZIPs means that retirement checks, important documents and parish administration gets delayed, misdirected, and confounded. Our provision requires USPS to once-and-for-all establish clear, coherent ZIP codes for Montz and LSU. I want to thank House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (KY-01) for working with us to pass these important corrections,” said Graves.

“The addition of a unique ZIP code for the Montz community will improve everything from mail delivery to emergency response services,” said St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell. “I want to thank Congressman Graves for his dedication and commitment to making this much-needed change a reality for the people of Montz.”

The bill now goes to the Senate for quick approval, then to the president for his signature.
