Graves’ Statement on the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion Groundbreaking
BATON ROUGE, LA,
August 10, 2023
BATON ROUGE, LA – U.S. Congressman Garret Graves released the following statement: “The Mississippi River built Louisiana – and finally reconnecting it with coastal areas that are currently starved of freshwater and sediment will ensure our future,” Graves said. “Today is also an incredible milestone for our Coastal Master Plan. By allowing science – not politics – to drive our mission, we are able to help mother nature run its course and build a sustainable footprint for Louisiana’s future. It’s about preserving our state, coastline, economy, fisheries, and Sportsman’s Paradise for generations to come.” Graves started this revised "Myrtle Grove" (now known as Mid-Barataria) project at Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) several years ago and locked in the funding during the Deepwater Horizon negotiations in 2014 and 2015. While in Congress, Graves changed a federal law that would have blocked the Mid-Barataria project. |
