Biden Administration Announces $841,338,500 in Corps of Engineers Projects – Nearly Half Goes to Two Politically-Important States

U.S. Congressman Garret Graves (South Louisiana) statement on Biden Administration's Political Allocation of Funding:

"Nearly one-third of the authorized U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' water resources projects in the entire country are in the State of Louisiana. We drain two-thirds of the continental United States from the north and have lost nearly 2,000 square miles of our coast largely due to the Corps of Engineers' management of the river systems that cut off sediment. For the second time under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (infrastructure bill), the Biden Administration has politically-manipulated funding to states. Under today's $840 million allocation, nearly half of the money goes to California and Michigan. Under this flawed law, Louisiana's projects receive only about five percent ($46 million for Southwest Coastal Louisiana). The president's Fiscal Year 2022 budget specifically stated that they would ‘not fund any work that lowers the cost of production or lowers the cost of consumption of oil and gas'. Unfortunately, this administration kept their word by refusing to fund key projects across our state and by making energy unaffordable. Refusing to build flood protection, restore the cost or provide hurricane protection to Louisiana is unacceptable. I look forward to having the administration before our committee to explain their actions."
