Department of Energy Approves Export Authorization for Natural Gas Project in Louisiana
Washington, DC,
April 28, 2022
U.S. Congressman Garret Graves released the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Energy's announced approval of additional export flexibility for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal based in Louisiana - Glenfarne Group LLC's Magnolia LNG project. Specifically, this announcement provides Magnolia LNG the opportunity to ship American LNG to additional countries – including countries in Europe – where we currently lack a formal free trade agreement. This will help to address trade imbalances with foreign nations and gives the United States, the global leader in natural gas production, and Louisiana, the top exporting state, more exporting opportunities. "This decision will allow for more American natural gas to replace Russian gas in Europe. It's a ‘twofer' – we can create more jobs, a win for Louisiana, and cut off funding for the Russian military, a loss for Putin. It makes no sense to supply the Ukrainian military on one hand yet continue to have our NATO allies giving Putin billions of dollars through Russian energy purchases. We strongly urge this Administration to stop blocking energy production and pipelines in the United States and to approve new LNG export terminals," Graves said. ### |
