East Baton Rouge Parish Set to Approve Federally Funded Flood Prevention Plan
Washington, DC,
October 27, 2021
U.S. Congressman Garret Graves released the following statement ahead of the East Baton Rouge Metro Council meeting today where $20 million in federal funding is set to be officially dedicated to flood prevention and drainage projects. The council initially voted in June 2021 to approve the budget for drainage projects with $20 million from federal funding. These drainage projects, accompanying other flood protection projects in the Capital Region secured by Graves, will together reduce flood risk for communities throughout the area. "We appreciate the parish setting aside $20 million in federal funding to keep our storm basins clear of debris and improve drainage. This complements parts of the estimated $5.6 billion of record funding we secured for south Louisiana flood improvement projects to benefit the Capital Region and other areas such as the $255 million for the East Baton Rouge Flood Control Project, $400 million for the Comite Diversion Project and $50 million for Livingston Parish drainage projects. With federal funding available, we've been bringing folks together to develop regional solutions and kick plans into gear. We will keep utilizing federal funding opportunities, information from constituents, and ideas from discussions to move us toward solutions faster. Our families, homes and businesses deserve safety and true flood protection," Graves said.
