U.S. Congressman Garret Graves (South Louisiana) released the following statement after the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) announced proposals that would roll back improvements made during the Trump administration to reform the nation's project delivery system.

"For those of you that have been begging for more red tape, more traffic, more flooding, more lawyers, more litigation and less resilient communities and ecosystem, the White House just answered your prayers. For the rest of us, revisions to the environmental review process just implemented by the White House will further delay and require more studies for critical infrastructure projects to solve our traffic, flooding and coastal problems. Further, the revisions made will fail to actually help the environment because this will only impede our ability to restore Louisiana's coast. This is what happens when you appoint people unencumbered by experience to key positions in our federal government. Facts and science are thrown out the window again," Graves said.

Previous administration improvements to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) help ensure the law fulfills its intended purpose and deliver meaningful infrastructure enhancements for the taxpayer. Infrastructure improvements such as new roads and bridges, hurricane protection, coastal wetlands restoration, and flood protection are currently impaired by NEPA.

The Biden Administration's announcement to reverse NEPA reform implementation takes us two steps back. Since day one of the Biden Administration, they said they would roll back meaningful reform to the nation's project delivery system.
