Graves Statement on Red Snapper Charter Fishing Season Reopened
Washington, DC,
October 1, 2021
U.S. Congressman Garret Graves (South Louisiana) released the following statement after National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced the reopening of the 2021 Federal Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper Recreational For-Hire Season. The Gulf federal red snapper for-hire season will reopen at 12:01 AM CST, on October 15, 2021, and will close at 12:01 AM CST, on November 6, 2021. Last week we announced the reopening and bag limit extension for recreational anglers, whereas this announcement focuses on charter fishing businesses. "In 2016, we won the battle to wrestle control of flawed red snapper recreational management from the federal government. More recently, the president signed our Modern Fish Act into law. These changes in fish management result in better decisions, better science and better access to fishing experiences in the Gulf of Mexico. This decision by NOAA is the way government is supposed to work. We're excited to see tourists and anglers getting more opportunities to enjoy fishing in south Louisiana." |
