Ribbon cutting held as Lake Elementary reopens after 2016 flooding

WAFB- Staff Report ST. AMANT, LA (WAFB) - Students in Ascension Parish head back to class one week from Wednesday. And it will be a homecoming for a lot of schools that are reopening after the August 2016 flooding. On Wednesday, August 1, Lake Elementary School cut the ribbon on its newly restored campus. It was a packed house as school leaders showed off the renovated campus to students and parents. The repairs and upgrades cost a little over $4 million. "Everyone really did a great job teaching and learning for the last two years, no matter where we were, so to get to continue that back home in our permanent school that's been refurbished, it looks brand new, is really going to take us even higher," said Jeremy Muse, principal of Lake Elementary. "You get so stuck in the minutia and trying to battle with people to get the dollars we need to fully recover, so to actually come here, to see this, to have the ribbon cutting, and you see the kids excited, this is what it's all about and it really makes it worth it," said Rep. Garret Graves, R-Baton Rouge. |
