Veterans History Project
We will be collecting the first-hand accounts of veterans on August 1, 2019 at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library.
If you are interested in participating, please sign up here or give our office a call at 225-442-1731.
The Veterans History Project, through the Library of Congress, collects and preserves firsthand stories of wartime service by American war veterans. Our office is participating in this project and hope to collect as many pieces of history from LA-06 veterans as possible. We are looking for veterans who want to share their stories and volunteers who would like to interview local veterans in your area. Stories can be told through personal narratives (audio, video interviews, or written memoirs), correspondence (letters, postcards, or diaries), and visual materials (photos, scrapbooks, or drawings).
I encourage you to consider making your own contributions to the Library of Congress's Veterans History Project by capturing the history of loved ones who served our great nation. This is a meaningful way to record a loved one's service to our nation, and to ensure their memories become a part of history for generations to come.
Ways to participate:
Share your story, if you’re a veteran.
Simply sit down with a friend or loved one and record a conversation about your military experiences for 30 minutes or longer.
Interview a veteran in your family or community.
Collect a veteran’s historical documents.
Interested veterans and community members interested in conducting interviews should contact Chelbi Johnson at 225.442.1731.
