LAPLACE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - An 18-mile levee to protect land near Lake Pontchartrain from storm surges could be finished by the 2023 hurricane season, an Army Corps of Engineers district commander said Monday.
The 18-mile, $760 million West Shore Lake Pontchartrain hurricane levee could be under construction by early 2021 and could be completed by mid-2023, in time for that year's hurricane season, the commander of the Army Corps of Engineers' New Orleans District office said Monday.

On the two-year anniversary of the historic flood, the Livingston Parish School System is moving on to its final phase of flood recovery with the destruction of a school that couldn’t be repaired.

In approving a four-month extension of the National Flood Insurance Program on Tuesday, the U.S. Senate did a good thing for the people of Louisiana who depend on the program to sustain homes and businesses in the region. We commend the members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation who worked to secure the extension in both the House and Senate.
DENHAM SPRINGS – A Senate vote on the duplication of benefits issue could come sooner than expected.
The Senate will likely bring the matter to a vote by mid-August, Congressman Garret Graves said Tuesday after the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals Luncheon on Tuesday at Greystone Country Club.
The vote is long overdue, he said.
