Graves Announces 2023 Congressional App Challenge Winners

U.S. Representative Garret Graves (Louisiana) announced today the winners of the Congressional App Challenge from Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District. Winning first place was Judah, Levi, and Rachel Garcia – their app, “Pelican Trivia,” aims to help third grade students study for the LEAP test using a game-like form.

In second place was Abhinav Pathak with the app “NeuroScan,” which uses convolutional neural networks (CNN) and recurrent neural networks (RNN) to aid pathologists in detecting and diagnosing commonly misdiagnosed tumors. Eliora Answandedo came in third place with the app “Back to School,” a platform for teachers and parents to search for school supplies drives in their community and find in-store discounts on products.

The Congressional App Challenge is a national competition aimed at encouraging U.S. students to learn how to code by creating their own application. The challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education and encourage students to engage in these fields.
